Niche Markets
The Commission works to diversify Oregon’s tourism assets by developing and strengthening niche markets that reflect regional authenticity, incorporating Brand Oregon styles and corroborating market research data. Niches currently under development by Travel Oregon include: culinary tourism, Tribal tourism, bicycle tourism, agri-tourism, wildlife watching (particularly birding), river trails and cultural heritage tourism. Other niches, such as golf, snowsports, aviation tourism and outdoor recreation/nature-based tourism experiences are being developed by partners with Travel Oregon’s participation.
Tourism Development works with other state and federal agencies (primarily those involved with natural resource management) to assist niche market development on public lands. Our objective when assisting the development of these markets is to incubate sustainable plans that will grow niches to become independent Travel Oregon partner organizations, resulting in positive impacts on Oregon’s economy as well as quality of life.
