Sherar’s Falls Scenic Bikeway

The Sherar’s Falls Bikeway was officially designated by the State’s Scenic Bikeway Committee on June 14, 2017. The Sherar’s Falls Scenic Bikeway is a 33-mile loop starting in Maupin, Oregon that winds along the Deschutes River en route to the bikeway’s namesake, Sherars Falls. Riders will follow a section of the White River and pass White River Falls State Park, one of Oregon’s secret hideaways, where a short walk leads to views of the river’s 90-foot plunge over a basalt shelf. Review the entire route here.

Bicycle Tourism Studio Workshop

On Thursday, June 16, 2016 community members along the Sherar’s Falls Scenic Bikeway joined Travel Oregon and Oregon Parks and Recreation Department for a Bicycle Tourism Studio workshop. These workshops are a community-based planning program designed to make Oregon’s Scenic Bikeways some of the best places to ride in America, to elevate areas as a bicycle travel-friendly destination and to help local businesses benefit from visiting cyclists.

Travel Oregon has designed a series of Bicycle Tourism Studios and workshops for the Oregon Scenic Bikeways and destinations seeking assistance in developing more bicycle tourism. These Studios are intended to help make our Scenic Bikeways the best places to ride in North America, to elevate surrounding areas as bicycle travel-friendly destinations, and to help local businesses benefit from visiting cyclists. The program is crafted to further planning efforts for each Scenic Bikeway, educate people about the growing cycling tourism market, foster key connections between local players and regional, state and national organizations, and focus community energy on the development of necessary infrastructure, business services and marketing activities.
