Efforts to restore and reconnect the Historic Columbia River Highway and the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail are the direct result of a unique and successful partnership between the Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, USDA Forest Service – Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, State Historic Preservation Office, Western Federal Lands Division of the Federal Highway Administration and Travel Oregon.
The project has broad community support including the local communities in the Gorge particularly the City of Troutdale, City of Cascade Locks, City of Hood River, City of Mosier, City of The Dalles, Multnomah County, Hood River County and Wasco County. Project supporters also include a multitude of agencies and non-profits from throughout the State and Gorge Region including the Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway, and Friends of the Columbia Gorge.
Additionally, the Oregon Transportation Commission under the leadership of Chair Pat Egan, unanimously approved a resolution of support for completing the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail on February, 24, 2014. See the entire resolution here.
