Oregon Bicycle Tourism Partnership

The Oregon Bicycle Tourism Partnership (OBTP) is a niche market working group that Travel Oregon convenes two to three times each year. The purpose of OBTP is to foster collaboration among participants in order to make Oregon a premier cycling destination, thereby increasing Oregon’s economic prosperity, particularly in rural areas.

OBTP pulls together a broad spectrum of interests that can have a positive impact on Oregon’s infrastructure, policy and business development in the area of bicycling. Participants include:

  • Bicycle tour operators
  • Bicycle retail shop owners
  • Bicycle event producers
  • Bicycle race organizers
  • Volunteers who want to see cycling tourism increase in their communities
  • Scenic Bikeway proponents
  • Public land management organizations
  • Transportation and land use planning organizations
  • Destination marketing organizations
  • Recreation organizations
  • Trail organizations
  • Advocacy organizations
  • Marketing and media organizations

Participants at OBTP meetings can network with key players like Cycle Oregon, Oregon Bicycle Racing Association, Bicycle Transportation Alliance, Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, U.S. Forest Service, BLM, International Mountain Bicycling Association and others.

In 2015, the OBTP identified five priority projects to focus on:

  1. Complete the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail and Develop Area Into a World-Class Bike/Ped Destination
  2. Improve transportation connections across Oregon for bicyclists
  3. Improve Recreational Riding Opportunities in Oregon (more off-road opportunities)
  4. Develop Connected Network of Bike/Ped Paths throughout Oregon
  5. Support and Highlight Tourism-Related Business Development
