Portland Southbound I-5 Closure Alert
Travelers in and around Portland should be aware of the Southbound I-5 closure scheduled 24/7 for five weeks between Sep. 11-Oct. 16, 2026, just south of the Moda Center. The Oregon Department of Transportation will be performing repair work.
The closure will significantly impact travel times; it’s best to avoid morning or evening rush hours and take alternative routes.
Recommended detours:
- Southbound I-5 traffic will divert to Interstate 405. Drivers who usually take I-5 south through the Rose Quarter should anticipate longer travel times.
- For southbound traffic through the Rose Quarter it’s best to bypass the construction zone and take Interstate-205, which provides a parallel route.
