Clackamas River Water Recreation Studio
The Clackamas River Recreation Studio was developed in response to the destination’s desire to develop and manage unique water-based recreation experiences that will help establish the upper and lower Clackamas River as a thriving tourism destination, yielding positive economic impacts, improving local livability and enhancing river health.
In spring 2019, the communities of Estacada, Eagle Creek, Barton, Damascus, Carver, Gladstone, Clackamas and Oregon City hosted the Clackamas River Recreation Studio with Travel Oregon to enhance and manage water recreation along the river.
Clackamas River Recreation Studio Key Outcomes:
- 53 local tourism stakeholders and residents participated in three multi-day workshops.
- Workshop topics included identifying market trends, leveraging tourism resources, regional asset identification, outdoor and river recreation market trends, and tourism resources. Workshop notes, presentations, outreach materials and other resources can be viewed on the Clackamas River Recreation Studio Resource page.
- Stakeholders from the upper and lower river co-developed a comprehensive set of actionable impact areas to connect downtown Estacada to the river, increase community engagement and partnerships, improve visitor comfort and sense of safety, increase diversity of guided recreation opportunities, address user capacity management, develop a communication strategy, and grow the space for collaboration through a tourism-focused recreation network
- The Clackamas River region will be submitting for a tourism studio matching grant from Travel Oregon to develop a trailhead ambassador program.
